ABOUT

Early in 1868, the chapter started as four students were initiated by visitors from Indiana Alpha at Indiana university. In a law office of the Indiana Alpha alumnus, this group signed the Bond and received their charter.

Today, Phi Delta Theta at DePauw celebrates many milestones. They include, being the largest fraternity on campus for over five years, one of a handful of fraternity chapters over 150 years old, one out of every seven men have graduated from DePauw since its inception are Phis, and alumni have been notable in business, law, medicine, as well as university as well as local philanthropic efforts.

Our beautiful home at the main entrance of DePauw was built in 1926. Since then, we’ve added an addition, been fully renovated, and have recently seen $1.3 million of improvements for health, safety, and comfort. And in a fundraising campaign just
concluded, over $3.5 million has been raised in current and estate gifts-another DePauw Greek milestone!

Our local alumni leaders are among the most engaged in the university. A parent organization too is actively engaged. Our chapter has contributed more philanthropic dollars than any other Greek chapter on campus over the last 10 years. We also have the largest Greek-centered scholarship for undergraduates, routinely awarding $5,000 or more per year to three to five
undergraduates.

Typically, about half our chapter members are varsity athletes and the chapter is above the all men’s and all fraternity average.

We are all proud to be DePauw Phis!
